New Music: Ty Dolla $ign feat. Kendrick Lamar, Brandy, & James Fauntleroy – ‘LA’

Ty Dolla $ign puts on for his city with the latest release from his upcoming album Free TC . So it only made sense that he took to the airwaves of Los Angeles radio station Real 92.3 to premiere the hometown anthem, produced by D’Mile, Chordz, and Ty himself. The song, which previously leaked in demo form, features L.A.’s own Kendrick Lamar and James Fauntleroy, along with Brandy.

As he approaches the Nov. 13 release of his debut album Free TC , Ty Dolla $ign liberates yet another track. Following the DJ Mustard-produced “Saved” featuring E-40, Ty calls upon R&B icon Babyface for an acoustic jam called “Solid.” In the accompanying video, Ty and Babyface play guitar by the beach, while Ty blows kush and sings about money and bad chicks.

Now the Detroit hitmaker teams with Ty Dolla $ign on “Go Without Her.” Wane’s got a typically understated sound, preferring elegant synths and lush percussion to any particularly recognizable sonic signature. This one rests on a mournful piano line, over which Ty$ describes a complex relationship rocked by infidelity.

It’s initially surprising to hear the East Coast favorite spitting over such distinctively West Coast-flavored production, but he makes it work by acknowledging his bicoastal interests.

Here’s a name you didn’t necessarily expect to hear attached to new music in 2015: Hurricane Chris. And yet, here we are—amid a wave of comebacks, the “A Bay Bay” rapper wants to get in on the fun with the release of the DJ Mustard-produced “Sections” off his upcoming mixtape Hurricane Season . Like everything else this year, it features Ty Dolla $ign, lacing the hook with his perfectly syrup-sweet voice.
