Future and Diddy Perform, Scarface Honored at BET Hip-Hop Awards 2015
BET saluted the best in hip-hop over the past year at the 10th annual
BET Hip-Hop Awards, which were taped at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta
Civic Center on Friday night (Oct. 9). For the third year in a row,
Snoop Dogg presided as host and brought the laughs with his GGN skits.
Drake, who led with 12 nominations, was absent, but his What a Time to Be Alive collaborator Future performed a medley of hits including “March Madness” and “Where Ya At” during a pre-taped segment.
Fresh off announcing his partnership with Epic Records, Sean “Diddy” Combs celebrated by taking the stage with his Bad Boy family members Lil’ Kim and Styles P, and debuted his new single “Workin.”
Ludacris presented Scarface with the “I Am Hip-Hop” award, calling him one of “hip-hop’s best storytellers.” A humbled Scarface acknowledged his peers while accepting the award.
“I’m not sh*t without y’all,” said the Houston legend, who joins past recipients Rakim, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Pepa, and Ice Cube.
But unfortunately, the celebration was cut short. According to Freddy O, 10 officers were waiting backstage and arrested Scarface after he received his award. There was reportedly a warrant out for his arrest and he was not supposed to leave Texas, but he still showed up so that he wouldn’t disappoint his fans.
Eminem, Redman, and Vince Staples were among the participants in the cyphers, but according to the AP, the freestyle session with Doug E. Fresh, Nicole Paris, and Rahzel earned the biggest applause.
T.I. joined Young Dro for “We In Da City,” while other performers included Travis Scott, Rich Homie Quan, Kid Ink, and DeJ Loaf.
