Listen to Snippets From The Weeknd’s New Album ‘Beauty Behind the Madness’
In just seven days, The Weeknd will release his sophomore album Beauty Behind the Madness. The follow-up to 2013’s Kiss Land
includes contributions from Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Labrinth, and
Kanye West, who produced “Tell Your Friends.” To combat the album’s
leak, the XO crooner has released a streaming compilation of snippets to
all 14 tracks.
As far as the songs, they fall in line with what you’d expect based on singles like the chart-topper “Can’t Feel My Face,” which is to say, the presence of Michael Jackson is strongly felt. Abel Tesfaye ditches most of the haunted theatrics that defined his early career in favor of big hooks and danceable production, much of it courtesy of the one-man Swedish pop factory Max Martin.
“At one point, I didn’t care,” The Weeknd tells Rolling Stone. “Now I want as many people to hear my music as possible.”
To celebrate the release, he will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 30 and launch “The Madness” tour this fall.
