Wale performed at the White House earlier today as a part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Beating the Odds Summit. The event, in support of the First Lady's Reach Higher Initiative, welcomed more than 100 college-bound students to the White House where they attended panels about financial aid and adapting to new environments, according to USA Today.
In addition to his performance, Wale joined Michelle Obama, Education Secretary Arne D
uncan, and a college student from Brown University on a panel in which they discussed their college experiences. Wale, who enrolled at Virginia State and Robert Morris University  before dropping out, explained how his time in college helped direct his career. “It allowed me to have more time to figure out what I wanted to do,” he said.
Obama's Reach Higher Initiative "encourages young people to complete their education" and at today's Summit she outlined a goal of making "education cool again."
During his White House visit, Wale also snapped a surprise picture with President Obama himself. According to the Chicago Sun Times the President made an unexpected appearance at the event, saying before Wale's concert, “My rapping skills are terrible. That’s one thing I can’t do is rap. I like rap but I cannot rap.”
