Eminem, 50 Cent Attend ‘Southpaw’ Premiere

Eminem made a rare public appearance at the premiere of Southpaw on Monday. Dressed in a black leather bomber jacket, red sneakers, and a hat, the “Phenomenal” rapper joined the film’s stars including Jake Gyllenhaal, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Rachel McAdams, and Miguel Gomez at the New York screening.

Em was originally approached to star in Gyllenhaal’s role as champion boxer Billy Hope, but chose to finish and promote his album instead. He did, however, executive produce the soundtrack, which features Bad Meets Evil, The Weeknd, and Slaughterhouse.

Fifty, who plays the fighter’s manager, took a moment to reflect on his relationship with Em. “Somethings never change you know like real friendship,” said Fif while posing alongside his mentor. “I only needed a shot and he gave it to me. I love EM 😆he said I see you doing big things, I’m still your favorite white boy right !!! LMAO I ALMOST FELL OUT.”
Eminem returned the compliment. “He’s always been so in tune with what the next move is, where I may be—I hate to say it—but I tend to be more narrow-minded. Just so tunnel vision with the music,” he told The New York Times.
According to Deadline.com, the film—about a champion boxer who has it all before a family tragedy strikes—received a rousing reception at the premiere.
Southpaw opens in theaters July 24.
