Heartbroken Girl Implores President Obama To Visit Her Home State In Adorable Letter
Never underestimate the power of a handwritten note.
Rebecca, an 11-year-old from South Dakota, sent a letter to the White House in April asking why the President has never visited her home state. She makes a fine case for South Dakota, citing a plethora of wildlife she sometimes sees, including coyotes, hawks and bald eagles, and reminding Obama that the state is also home to Mount Rushmore.
"We are the warmest of the Dakotas," she writes, ending the letter with a drawing of a heart broken into two and signing it "Sadly, Rebecca."
Now, Rebecca's broken little heart can mend. The White House tweeted her letter to report that the president is touching down in South Dakota on Friday to deliver the commencement address at Lake Area Tech Community College in Watertown. By checking off this trip to South Dakota, Obama joins Richard Nixon, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton as the only presidents to visit all 50 states.
Sadly, Mt. Rushmore is not on the president's itinerary. However, according to Weather.com, there is a high of 61 degrees in Watertown today.
You go, Rebecca.
