Hasbro CEO hints Bumblebee could get Transformers spin-off film

The Transformers cinematic universeThe Transformers cinematic universe will soon expand far beyond the four films that have already hit theaters, and Hasbro’s CEO Brian Goldner hinted that future films could highlight individual transformers.

Speaking at the Citi Global Consumer Conference, Goldner spoke to the news that several more Transformers films are on the way, and that individual characters could be the focus of their own films. Specifically he called out Autobot Bumblebee, who has been around since the first live-action Transformers film. “As we go forward, we would imagine several more Transformers movies, not just in the current lineage but also spin-offs and focusing in on key characters loved the world over,” Goldner said.
“Many of you know Bumblebee,” Goldner continued. “He is a beloved character by kids all over the world. We could see stories told around Bumblebee and other characters.”
While this certainly doesn’t guarantee a Bumblebee film will happen—or whether ideas for one have even been ironed out in any concrete way—Goldner’s example does provide a good indication of just what exactly this “universe” will entail beyond the main films. Bumblebee debuted with a broken voice module and as a close friend to Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky. But even as the series branched off from Sam’s story, Bumblebee has remained one of the franchise mainstays.
Goldner previously said that Hasbro thinks “there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing

and mythology,” before setting expectations for another Transformers film in 2017. Paramount has reportedly hired Robert Kirkman, Jeff Pinkner, Zak Penn, Matt Holloway, and Art Marcum to begin formulating ideas for future Transformers films.
Hopefully, if Bumblebee actually finds himself at the center of his own film, it won’t be two hours of him leaking oil on John Turturro. Representatives for Hasbro did not respond to a request for further comment.
